Agnes Strope, age 100, of St. Thomas, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Westphalia Retirement Center. She was born in St. Thomas on August 17, 1907, daughter of John and Catherine (Wankum) Luebbering. On February 15, 1927, in St. Thomas, she was married to Henry Strope, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1960.
She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper at the Priest's Rectory in St. Thomas. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sewing Circle, and St. Ann's Sodality.
Survivors include one son, Leonard Strope and wife Kathy of St. Thomas; two daughters, Bernice Pope and husband George of Koeltztown and Dorothy Berhorst of Westphalia; one brother, Joseph Luebbering of St. Thomas; one sister-in-law, Christine Luebbering of Jefferson City; 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters; two grandchildren, Mark Strope and Patrick Berhorst; five brothers, Ben, Leo, Henry, Herman, and Louis Luebbering; and four sisters, Mary Herigon, Cecelia Adrian, Rose Kaiser, and Elizabeth Lehman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
