Alberta G. (Gorczyca) Hooper, age 77, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on March 14, 1938, daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Ann (Gavaletz) Gorczyca. On August 20, 1960, in Clark, New Jersey, Alberta married Donald Matthew Hooper, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2004.
Alberta lived the quintessential life of an Army officer's wife; always on the move to various bases from Hawaii to Germany. She raised a family with a calm demeanor and a sense of humor and handled challenges with courage and grace. Alberta was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony. She was also a Girl Scout leader for her daughter, enjoyed gardening, arts & crafts, and provided a loving home for many stray animals. She was an active member of the Tuesday Afternoon Ladies Bowling League and enjoyed volunteering at the Ft. Leonard Wood thrift store.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Hooper Jr. of San Antonio, Texas and Charles Hooper and wife Brittney of Kansas City; one daughter, Terie Ann Hooper of Aspen, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jack and Lily Huggard and Owen and Lauren Hooper; one sister, Marita Muscara and husband Frank Macarski of Iberia; one sister-in-law, Rose Romeo of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; two nieces, Jacqueline Hagendoorn of Iberia and Marie Kuen of Carbondale, Colorado; and one nephew, Mike Sevcovic of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 20, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony. Rev. Joby Thomas will officiate. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service led by Rev. Dan Lueckenotte will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, April 19, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
