Alfred Joseph Doerhoff, age 88, of St. Elizabeth, passed away at The Timbers Assisted Living on Sunday, January 24, 2021. He was born in St. Elizabeth on July 17, 1932, son of the late Herman and Emma (Huhman) Doerhoff.

Alfred was united in marriage to the late Mary Ann Bode Struemph on November 27, 1987 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Mary Ann preceded Alfred in death on June 20, 2019.

Although very tall in stature at 6' 7", he was a kind, gentle soul. He was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Alfred served his country in the Korean War conflict and was honorably discharged after four years of service.

Prior to retirement, much of his time was also devoted to caring for his family farm in St. Elizabeth. He loved spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and bowling.

He is survived by six children – Joann Young (Ken) of Carbondale, Ill., Lewis Struemph (Ronnie) of O'Fallon, James Struemph (Pat) of St. Elizabeth, Frank Struemph (Carol) of Villa Ridge, Stan Struemph (Theresa) of St. Elizabeth, and Paul Struemph (Karen) of St. Thomas; daughter-in-law Linda Struemph of Washington; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 on the way; seven sisters, Sister Mary Julitta, Rosana Weidinger, Loretta (Jerry) Weiler, Dottie (Bernie) Rupp, Julitta (John) Langle, Evelyn (John) VanGoethem, and Carolyn (Steve) Stolberg; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Along with his parents and wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Doerhoff; sister, Dolores Stover; sister-in-law, Mary Doerhoff; brother-in-law, Robert Weidinger; son, Dennis Struemph; and granddaughter, Katalin Young.
