Alton James Koch, Sr., age 66, of Piedmont formerly of Meta, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at his home. He was born in San Diego, California, on December 11, 1957, son of the late Willard and Marguerite (Barden) Koch.
He is survived by three children, Alton Koch Jr. of St. Elizabeth, April (Gabe) Schubert of Meta, and Aaron (Kristina) Koch of Linn; seven grandchildren, Bethany, Donnie, Kaytlin, Kayla, Kaleb, Vidella, and Ryann; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Everleigh; two brothers, Bill (Bonnie) Koch and Tim Koch; sister, Cheryl (Joe) Gross; and numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Vangie Koch.
Alton served in the United States Marine Corps from March 5, 1975, until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1977. He had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared his love for hunting with others by becoming a Hunter's Education instructor. Alton enjoyed volunteering at Wonderland Camp and was a past member of the Jefferson City Jaycees.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a luncheon following at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 17, at First Baptist Church of St. Elizabeth.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home.
