Alvin Willard Ewan, age 81, of Dixon, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at his home. He was born in Cherokee, Kansas, on March 19, 1927, son of Willard Ernest and Trela Fern (Peel) Ewan. On February 18, 1967, in Santa Barbara, California, he was married to Brenda June Boyd, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was involved in the Berlin Occupation. He lived in Kansas, Colorado, California, and Missouri. He worked in the Kansas Ordinance Plant for several years, the LaPlaya Motel in Santa Barbara, and retired from the Miller County Road District in Tuscumbia. He was baptized as a child into the Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Kansas. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon Kay Johnson of Shawnee, Kansas, and Hilda Marie Partington of Independence; one son, Alvin Willard Ewan Jr. and wife Jackie of Bonner Springs, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lea Shannon Wilkes; one grandson, Christopher Robin Ewan; and one brother, Ernest H. Ewan.
The body was cremated under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at Dick Lawson Cemetery near Iberia with Bro. Gene Edwards officiating.
