Obituary

Anton "Tony" Herman Libbert, age 81, of Meta, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his home.  He was born in Jefferson City, on August 13, 1943, son of the late Lionel John and Aharta Anna (Wieberg) Libbert.

Tony was a 1961 graduate of St. Elizabeth R-IV.  Following high school, he earned his associates degree and was in the first graduating class from Linn Tech in 1963. Tony began his working career at McDonell Douglas.  Two years later, he was drafted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He honorably served overseas from April 8, 1965, until his discharge on March 31, 1967.  Following his military service, he went to work for Xerox for a couple years before starting his own company, Anton Libbert Electric.  On June 9, 1973, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Tony was united in marriage to Dolores Blomberg.

Tony was an active member of his community, having over 40 years of volunteer service with various local organizations including the Meta Fire and Rescue Protection; COMM-Unity Ambulance, and he served on the Board of Meta Fire Protection District.  He was always willing to help others in need and was a proud blood donor. He was a committed member of Citizen Civic League and St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.

In addition to his loving wife, Dolores Libbert, he is also survived by his son, Roy John Libbert; daughter, Amy Lister; grandchildren, Kelsey Perry, Taylor Libbert, Brooke (Michael) Dillingham, Emma Lister, and Sophia Lister; one great-grandchild due in April; three siblings, Terry (Pam) Libbert, Betty Jean (Curtis) Kemna, and Loyd (Dina) Libbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bonnie Libbert and Sandy Libbert, and brother, Harold Libbert.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, February 3, 2025, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta with Fr. Mark Porterfield officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held in St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Masses or St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
