Artie Mae Bernsen, age 98, of Iberia, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. She was born in Iberia on May 31, 1914, daughter of the late Lonzo "Lonnie" and Martha (Bailey) Lilly. On December 24, 1940, in Vienna, Artie married Irvin E. Bernsen, who preceded her in death on January 20, 1973.
Artie was a 1934 graduate of the Iberia Academy. She was employed for seven years as a Dental Technician for Dr. Ed Suggett and later worked for Dr. G.W. Duncan in Iberia. She was also a Telephone Operator at Central Office in Crocker.
Artie was a member of the Fairview Christian Church near Iberia.
She is survived by four children, Joyce Malmberg and husband Bob of Camdenton, Doris Clevenger of Waynesville, Jo Minx and husband Vess of Lonedell, and Eugene Bernsen and wife Karen of Iberia; nine grandchildren, Craig Malmberg, Shannon Malmberg, Elizabeth Ferguson, John Malmberg, Jason Minx, Tammy Geisert, Jeremy Bernsen, Kelly Colvin, and Thomas Bernsen; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Blanche Niehaus, Delphia Lilly, Faye Dickinson, Gladys Skiles, and Audrey Jones.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m., with services immediately following at 10:30, on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Freddie Earp will officiate. Interment will be in Madden Cemetery near Iberia.
