Bernard Henry "Barney" Morff, age 87, of St. Thomas, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born in Henley on August 2, 1921, son of John and Theresa (Loethen) Morff. On October 24, 1942, in St. Elizabeth, he was married to Martina Lueckenhoff, who preceded him in death in 1996. On January 31, 1998, in St. Thomas, he was married to Dolores Nilges Wansing, who preceded him in death in 2001. In 2003, in Eldon, he was married to Nadine Shahan, who preceded him in death in 2008.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he was a fireman on the USS Sheldrake. He was employed as an auto doctor for McKay Buick for 30 years retiring in 1986. He was a lifetime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the St. Martins VFW Post 35 and a member of the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5. He was also a member of the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus and the St. Thomas Over 50 Club.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Morff (Kitty) of Centertown, Alfred Morff (Cheryl) of Jefferson City, and Michael Morff (Diana) of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Emma Schulte of Marys Home, Marie Holtmeyer of St. Elizabeth, and Laverne Berendzen of Henley; one sister-in-law, Regina Morff; nine grandchildren, Tim Morff (Charlene), Dennis Morff (Peni), Steve Morff (Pam), Jodi Bise (Chris), Tanya Morff, Jennifer Rogers, Jason Morff (Julie), Joseph Morff, and Christopher Morff; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jane Groene; three brothers and two sisters, Lawrence, Felix, and Victor Morff, Sally Biffle, and Arlene Hudak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Hall with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
