Bertha C. Brown, age 93, of Vienna, formerly of Iberia, died Thursday, November 16, 2006, at Maries Manor in Vienna. She was born in Maries County on February 8, 1913, daughter of Judson and Addie (Parker) Ellis. On August 15, 1931, she was married to Raymond Grosvenor, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1961. On October 7, 1966, in Belle, she was married to Franklin Evart Brown, who preceded her in death on July 21, 1994.
She and her first husband, Raymond, lived on a small farm in Eastern Miller County with the exception of the eight years they worked in St. Louis. They spent the summer months at Lake George, New York. She and her second husband, Evart, continued to live on the same farm. Bertha was baptized early in life and was a faithful member of the Smyrna Church of Christ. She loved to sew, do handwork, work in her garden, and was a great lover of flowers. She spent her last few years at the residential care facility, Victorian Gardens, in Vienna.
Survivors include one niece, Louise E. French of Vienna; Paul Dake of Vienna and Freddie Ellis of Dixon; two great-nieces, Karen Luecke of Lake of the Ozarks and Cathy Lee of Henderson, Tennessee; five great-nephews, Jim French of Columbia, John French of Branson, Tom French of Fulton, Scott Dake of Vienna, and Dirk Ellis of Richland; six great great-nephews, David French, Steven Stricklan, Quinton Lee, Aaron Lee, Ben French, and Rylan Ellis; eleven great great-nieces, Stefanie Feeler, Jennifer Brothers, Katey French, Kasey French, Layla Ellis, Kendra Ellis, Zoe Ellis, Elizabeth French, Erica French, Sara French, and Hannah Whitaker; four great great great-nephews, Brock Feeler, Kyler Stricklan, Kolten Stricklan, and Theron Lee; and one great great great-niece, Karissa Feeler.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Theron Ellis; an infant sister; one nephew, Harland Ellis; one niece, Norma Dake; and one great-nephew, Joseph Judson French.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Minister Carey Terry officiating. Interment will be in Dick Lawson Cemetery near Iberia.
