Obituary

Billy "Bill" Gene Smith, age 81, of Brumley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Health Center. He was born in Iberia on November 15, 1936, son of the late Oliver and Verlie (Wyrick) Smith. On January 1, 1960, in Kansas City, MO, Bill married his soulmate, Bonnie Aletta Luttrell, who preceded him in death on October 17, 2000.

Bill honorably served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, Bill worked on the railroad for M.K.T and Union Pacific for 36 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge, Shriners Abou Ben Adhem, Crocker VFW Post 4956, American Legion Post 105, and past Eagles member.

He is survived by three sons, Bruce Luttrell of Brumley, Randall Smith and wife Cindy of Gardner, Kansas and Russell Smith and wife Cathy of Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren, Christopher Smith and wife Jody, Jerry Smith and wife Julie, Ashleah Smith, Saracyewski Smith, Adrianna Smith, and Annika Smith; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Smith Hake and one daughter, Mitzi Smith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Masonic Service beginning at 1 p.m. followed immediately with the funeral service. Bro. Roy Gilkey will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held in Iberia Cemetery.
