Schaffer
July 22, 1939 – January 15, 2024
Carol R. Schaffer, age 84, of St. Anthony, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born in Mary's Home on July 22, 1939, daughter of the late Edward and Angeline (Sanning) Bungart. On October 16, 1965, in Mary's Home, Carol was united in marriage to Vincent John Schaffer, who preceded her in death on June 22, 2018.
Carol never shied away from hard work, in addition to being a devoted homemaker, she was employed at the Highway Patrol, L.B. Manufacturing, Miller County Nursing Home, and later worked at St. Elizabeth R-IV as a cook in the dietary department until her retirement. She was a talented quilter, creating countless keepsakes and gifted each grandchild a quilt. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards. Carol was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
She is survived by five children, Alan (Sheila) Schaffer of Jefferson City, Aaron (Erin) Schaffer of St. Anthony, Karen (Brad) Gabelsberger of Frankenstein, Adam (Kim) Schaffer of Clinton, and Kristy (James McMahan) Schaffer of Arlington, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Avery Schaffer, Evan Schaffer, Savannah Schaffer, Everett Schaffer, Andrea Schaffer, Ariel (Wade) Bond, Miranda Gabelsberger, Wyatt Gabelsberger, Kathryn Schaffer, Alyssa Schaffer, and Henry Schaffer; five sisters, Adele Lueckenoff of Wardsville, Etta Schulte of Mary's Home, Eunice Kauffman of Jefferson City, Elizabeth "Susie" (George) Schulte of Jefferson City; and Barb (Benny) Bax of Mary's Home; sister-in-law, Betty Bungart; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Bungart, Harold Bungart, Clem Bungart, and Elroy Bungart; and two sisters, Helen Bisges and Angie Wieberg.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating. Interment will be held in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
