Obituary

Catherine "Kate" Anna Hurst, age 72, of Meta, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, September 14, 2007. She was born on August 29, 1935, in Meta, the daughter of George and Emma (Kirkweg) Werdehausen. On November 27, 1957, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta, she was united in marriage to Franklin Delano Hurst, who survives at the home.

Kate was a clerk and cashier with the Hurst Auction Service for over 40 years. She was also employed with Tweedie Shoe Factory and McGraw Edison both in Jefferson City, Ottenheimer Factory in Meta, South Central Livestock Market in Vienna, Meta Public School, and the Osage R-III Elementary School in Westphalia.

She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta and the Over 50 Club.

Kate was a devoted wife and mother and really enjoyed spending time with her eleven grandchildren. She also enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, quilting, and spending time with her family.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sue Feltrop and her husband Dave, and Judy Kempker and her husband Mark, both of Westphalia; two sons, Jim Hurst and his wife Deb, and Tom Hurst and his wife Staci, both of Meta; one sister, Marie; seven brothers and their wives, Otto and Mary, Eddie and Clara, Johnny and Leona, Fred and Jeanie, Cap and Ruby, Raymond and Delores, and Elmer and Chris; and 11 grandchildren, Angie Hoecker, Danielle, Candace, and Preston Feltrop, Brent and Brianna Kempker, Logan and Lydia Hurst, and Macey, Hayden, and Emma Hurst.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother August.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
