Obituary

Charles Henry Voss, age 92, of St. Anthony, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach.  He was born on November 3, 1931, son of the late John and Antonette "Nettie" (Lindenbusch) Voss.  On June 30, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, Charles was united in marriage to Mary Ann Dickneite, who preceded him in death on April 24, 2012.

Charles honorably served in the United States Air Force.  He enlisted in the Air Force on October 1, 1951, serving overseas in France, Germany, England, and Luxembourg from October 1952 until April of 1954.  He was later deployed once again overseas where he was stationed in Greenland and Newfoundland for eight months.  He was discharged on October 1, 1959, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Charles was a proud member of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 where he served on the funeral honors team.

He was a man of many trades and worked in various occupations throughout his life including farming, raising cattle and hogs, and carpentry.  He also worked at the City of Iberia for five years and was contracted at Ft. Wood for nine years.  Charles, along with his wife Mary Ann, owned and operated Voss Market in St. Anthony from 1965 until 1976.  After retirement, he continued working various odd jobs and enjoyed wood working.  He was a devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

He is survived by six children, Donna (Eddie) Green of St. Anthony, Gary (Phylis) Voss of Meta, Roger Voss and Bambi of Arizona, Laura (Danny) Strutton of St. Anthony, Alan "Buck" (Eva) Voss of St. Anthony, and Sherry (Michael) Burks of Olathe, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren, Adam Green, Nathan Green, Tiffany Green-Wright, Nicole McDonnell, Quentin Voss, Natasha (Voss) Bennett, Brittany Voss, Joshua Strutton, Brandon Strutton, Shaya Schmitt, Ethan Strutton, Nick Voss, Zach Voss, Connor Burks, and Sarah Johnson; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Bernard Voss and Mark Voss; sister, Mary Murray; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome Voss, Urban Voss, and Paul Voss.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anthony Cemetery.
