Obituary

Clarence S. "Sam" Sherrell, age 73, of New Bloomfield, formerly of Meta, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home. He was born in Meta on April 25, 1935, son of Clarence Olaf and Jewell Marie (Helton) Sherrell. On December 8, 1973, in Jefferson City, he was married to Mildred Gayle Vaughan, who survives at the home.

He had worked on the Alaskan pipeline and was a member of the Iron Workers Union #396 for 35 years. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 326 in Linn. He was a past president of the Meta Southside Cemetery Association. He was an avid Cardinal fan and enjoyed working on his farm and with his dogs.

Other survivors include two sons, Steven Sherrell of Meta and Alan Sherrell and wife Doreene of New Bloomfield; two stepchildren, Michael James Gibler and wife Donna of Jefferson City and Lori Davis and husband Danny Guy of New Bloomfield; one brother, Ronald Sherrell and wife Sarah of Jefferson City; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Sherrell; one stepson, Robert Gibler Sherrell; and one brother, Darrell Sherrell.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, at Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. A Masonic Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow. Rev. Bob Hamm will officiate.
