Retired Sergeant First Class, Clifford R. South, 76, of Fulton, formerly of Iberia, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born in Bowie, Texas on October 27, 1933, son of Albert Frank Sr. and Viola Belle (Johnson) South. On March 15, 1980, in Waynesville, Clifford married Mary A. Letherer, who survives at the home.

Clifford served his country in the United States Army for 23 year. Clifford served during Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. He also worked for 15 years with the Missouri Department of Corrections and farmed in the Iberia area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iberia.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Robert South of Grain Valley; four daughters, Dawn Evans and husband Nathan of Lake Ozark, Amanda Scharfenberg and husband Roy of Holts Summit, Jackie Ridgeway and husband Trevor of Buckner, and Lisa Harper and husband Rocky of Lovington, New Mexico; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., with services immediately following at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Walt Pollard will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Sunset Cemetery near Bowie Texas.
