Corda Mae Barnhart Rakes, age 98, of Meta, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at the Westphalia Retirement Center. She was born on October 1, 1908, in Meta, daughter of David and Cordelia (Pendleton) Barnhart. On December 5, 1929, she was married to Carol Monroe Rakes, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Carol "DeWayne" Rakes and wife Erma of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Vicky Rakes-Meeks and husband Martin Meeks of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Scott Rakes of Jefferson City; and two great-grandchildren, Raymond Meeks and Onieka Meeks both of Jamaica.

One grandson, Terry DeWayne Rakes, preceded her in death in March 1995.

Corda was an active member of Meta Christian Church. She was employed with International Shoe Factory, Linn Garment Factory, and Meta Tent Factory and retired in the 1970's.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, at Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Rev. Manuel Seaton will officiate. Interment will be in Meta Southside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
