Obituary

Dallas C. Colvin, age 94, of Iberia, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Miller County on June 15, 1922, son of the late Lonnie and Sarah Emma (Shelton) Colvin. On November 19, 1951, in Tuscumbia, Dallas married Helen Louise Skaggs, who survives at the home.

Dallas honorably served in the United States Army and the National Guard for 29 years. He served his country during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Dallas received several awards for his military service including an ETO (European Theater of Operations), Good Conduct Service Medal, The American Theater Service Medal, United Nations Campaign Medal, the Korean Campaign Medal and three Bronze Stars. Dallas worked in electronics maintenance with the National Guard until his retirement in March 1976. Later, he was a member of the VFW Rifle Squad, performing at military funerals.

He was a charter member and past commander of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 from 1995 to 1999. He was a member of the American Legion Post 105 and of the Iberia Masonic Lodge #410 for 60 years.

Dallas was also a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Iberia.

In addition to his wife, Helen Colvin, he is also survived by one son, Donald Colvin and Tina Barton; one daughter, Janet Keeth and husband Tony; one grandson, Ty Keeth all of Iberia; sister-in-law, Wilma Colvin of Jefferson City; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Delores Colvin; and three brothers, Dorlas, Louis, and Dennis Colvin.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Masonic Service and funeral ceremony immediately following at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 23, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Dr. Wayne Cogell will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of Iberia VFW Post 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.
