IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Keith
Borgmeyer
September 19, 1944 – January 14, 2024
Daniel Keith Borgmeyer, born in Meta on September 19, 1944, died at age 79, on January 14, 2024, after a courageous three-year battle against ALS. Dan, recently of Sarasota, Florida, and Hendersonville, North Carolina, lived a full life in which family, friends, and church meant everything.
Dan was the fourth of nine children in the Lambert and Mary Agnes (Walsh) Borgmeyer family. After graduation from Fatima High School in 1962, Dan joined the Navy at age 17 as a "Kiddie Cruiser" during the Vietnam era. He served from 1962 to 1966 assigned to Fighter Squadron 92 on the USS Ranger and the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carriers as a Fighter Control Technician to maintain radar systems in F-4 Phantom aircraft.
The Navy prepared Dan for employment at McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri. His strong work ethic positioned him for transfers to management roles with companies such as Paradyne, Lucent Technologies, and Cisco Systems. Wherever Dan lived, St. Louis, MO, Largo, FL, Cary NC, or when retired, Hendersonville, NC, and Sarasota, FL, Dan loved playing baseball and softball. He especially enjoyed his teammates on the Legends of Baseball teams in Cooperstown, New York, and the VACAR traveling softball team, as well as the Pepsi Kids, Hendersonville Seniors, and Cary Senior North Carolina teams.
Dan's lively, fun-loving spirit spread such joy to his family and friends. His competitiveness, whether on a bicycle or playing corn-hole or pickle ball, was legendary. He was also known for his support of charities and Catholic Church causes. His generosity and advice were shared throughout his huge family. His "Dan Kan" spirit and love of life will be remembered by many.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Pauline Williams, his beloved son, Brian Borgmeyer; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Dot Grotemeyer; brothers, Larry Borgmeyer and Gary (Chris) Borgmeyer; and a multitude of cherished nieces and nephews. He was especially close to his niece, Judy (Zimmer) Darr (Cint) and sister-in-law, Susan (Williams) Jewett (Chan Sweetser).
Dan is predeceased by his parents; his daughters, Chris (Borgmeyer) Cown and Kim Borgmeyer; sisters, Mary Beth Borgmeyer and Nancy (Borgmeyer) Zimmer (deceased husband Vernon); and his brothers, Jim (Connie) Borgmeyer, Bob (Tina) Borgmeyer, and Jerry (Cassie) Borgmeyer.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 20, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.
A Celebration of Life for Daniel Borgmeyer will be held at a future date in Sarasota, Florida.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta, Missouri.
