Daniel F. Smith, age 68, of Lake Ozark, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois, on April 15, 1942, son of the late Kenneth and Lucille (Garling) Smith. On November 23, 1995, in Tuscumbia, Daniel married Janice D. Helton, who survives.

Daniel served two tours in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the pilot of the Bell Huey Cobra Attack Helicopter and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II. He also received several medals and honors including two Distinguished Flying Crosses, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and was a Silver Star Recipient.

He was a successful Snap-On Tool Distributor. He moved to Lake Ozark in 1980, where he co-owned and managed Glen Cove Marine until 1994. He then purchased Marine Power Center with his wife in 1994 where he sold boats and automobiles. In 1998, that business became Auto and Boat Center in Osage Beach, where he retired from in 2003.

Daniel was an avid Ham Radio Operator since the age of 15. He was a member of several Ham Radio Clubs.

He is also survived by two step children, Todd Glaze and wife Michele of Eldon and Becky Slone and husband Darren of Iberia; one brother, James Smith of Bloomington, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jason Glaze of Tuscumbia, Megan Aull of Ulman, Brittany Toalson of Eldon, Daniel Slone of Tuscumbia, Dylan Lyle of Iberia, Jordyn Lyle of New Hampshire, and Aubry Glaze of Eldon; and four great-grandchildren, Jaylyn Glaze of Tuscumbia, Lillian Aull of Ulman, Colton Aull of Ulman, and Cooper Toalson of Eldon.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Brian Jarrett will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia.
