Obituary

David L. Volmert, age 68, of St. Thomas, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born in Jefferson City, on March 13, 1955, son of the late Herbert Lambert and Imogene Ann (Lueckenotto) Volmert.  On April 18, 1980, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta, David was united in marriage to Peggy Stokes, who survives at their home.

David had a career with the Roofers Union Local #20 working for Gentges Roofing and later Missouri Builders Roofing until retiring after 40 plus years of working in the industry.  He loved spending time on his farm, was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved watching his grandsons play baseball.  He took great pride and joy in his family, especially his grandsons, who lovingly called him "Papo".   David was a devoted member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

In addition to his loving wife, Peggy Volmert, he is also survived by two sons, Jason (Jenna) Volmert and Jordan (Janna) Volmert; three grandsons, Johnathon, Jase, and Jamison; brother, Roger (Eileen) Volmert; three sisters, Linda (David) Kiesling, Darlene Libbert, and Ruth (Jim) Stokes; two sisters-in-law, Marsha (Greg) Colvin and Debbie Stokes; and numerous family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Danny Libbert; nephew, Kurt Volmert; great-nephew, Austin Webb; brother-in-law, Johnny Stokes; sister-in-law, Beverly (Tom) Norton; and father and mother-in-law, John and Bernice Stokes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 18, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating.  Interment will be held in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., on Thursday, August 17, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Thomas the Apostle School.
