Obituary

Doil Gene Meredith, known to his friends and family as Gene, age 85, of Iberia, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Iberia on May 4, 1933, son of the late Marshall and Pearl (Winfrey) Meredith. On November 21, 1959, in Linn Creek, Gene married Glotha Mae Duncan, who survives at their home.

Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 2, 1957 and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1961. After serving in the Air Force, Gene went back to work and lived on his family farm where he raised his family. To Gene the farm was more than just a piece of land, it was a way of life and a legacy that he would pass down to his future generations. He was very proud of his family's century farm and dedicated countless hours to its success.

Gene was a member of various organizations in the community including serving over 50 years in the Iberia Masonic Lodge, board member of Concord Christian Church as well as serving on the Board of Directors for Gascosage.

Gene worked in civil service at Fort Leonard Wood as the maintenance supervisor for 30 years and was also a life-time farmer. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting, but nothing compares to the love he had for his family especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Glotha, he is also survived by his son, Mark Meredith and wife Carol of Iberia; daughter, Jeannie Neuman and husband Rod of Iberia; three grandchildren, Dustin Meredith (Christy), Kyle Neuman (Debbie), and Hannah Carico (Tyler); six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Thelma Meredith; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Meredith; three brothers, Geral, Noble, and Paul Meredith; and one sister, Beulah Philips.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Lee Todd officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 12, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Union Cemetery.
