Don Valgene DeTrou, fondly known to his family and friends as Val, age 77, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Lee Memorial Health System.  He was born in Lodi, Ohio, on March 16, 1944, son of the late Donald Manius DeTrou and Ethel Margaret (Shepard) DeTrou.  On April 24, 1982, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Val was united in marriage to Pamela Jean Hensley, who survives at their home.

He honorably served in the United States Army from May of 1965 until his discharge on May 3, 1967.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter.

Val retired from ADP in 1999 after 32 years of service as Vice President of Operations.  Following retirement Val and his wife Pam traveled the country in their motorhome, visiting 48 states over a span of 15 years.  He enjoyed off-road jeeping, and loved walking his dog, Sophie.  Val had an endearing personality, an infectious smile, and enjoyed joking around with others.  He never knew a stranger and was able to connect easily with others.  Val loved spending time with people especially his family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Pamela DeTrou, he is also survived by three children, Dirk DeTrou and wife Karen of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa DeTrou of Berlin, New Jersey, and Dawn Freesen and husband O.R. of LeBelle, Florida; four grandchildren, Michael Britten, Elizabeth Spanfelner, Julia Spanfelner, and Ella DeTrou; brother, Dean DeTrou and wife Joan; mother-in-law, Emogene Hensley; nephew, Remy DeTrou; and family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 (noon) on Wednesday, September 29, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.  A graveside service with military honors will be held 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, September 29, at Hickory Point Cemetery, with Bro. Roy Bryant officiating.
