Obituary

Donald Carroll Huddleston, age 86, of rural Brumley, departed this life and stepped into glory at dawn on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia.

He was born in Brumley on December 8, 1934, two miles north of Brumley in the home of his grandparents, George and Mary (Winfrey) Plemmons, where his parents, Virgil and Audrey (Plemmons) Huddleston, resided at the time.

His early years of public education were completed at Brumley School. His father, Virgil, moved the family to Crocker after securing employment at that place and Don graduated from Crocker High School in 1953. Don returned to Brumley to attend an evening performance of Lee Mace's Ozark Opry show at the Brumley School Gymnasium. While there, he had a chance encounter with a young lady, Dorsie Mae Witt. A relationship developed and flourished. They married in Iberia on January 21, 1955, in the home of Rev. Earl Basil Brown. The majority of their married life would be spent on a farm less than a mile from his birthplace.

He is survived by two sons, Greg Huddleston (Debby) and Dave Huddleston both of Brumley; two daughters, Susan Ladd (Tom) and Karen Landreth (Bob) both Brumley; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Lawson; two sisters-in-law, Delcie Witt Lawson and Gertie Rodden Witt all of Brumley; two cousins, Mary Hoskins of Barnett and Carolyn Kelsay both of Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Landreth; brother, Lonnie Huddleston; and three sisters, Jeanette Hickman, Nova Shattuck, and Dorothy "Dottie" Davis.

A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Hawkins Cemetery near Brumley.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hawkins Cemetery.
