Donald D. Pemberton, age 93, of Cape Girardeau, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born on August 14, 1919, near Iberia, MO, son of Wade A. and Edna F. (Wall) Pemberton. He and Barbara Jones were married on December 1, 1945, in Caruthersville, MO. She preceded him death on April 21, 2008.

Don served in the United States Army Air Corp from January 1, 1942 until his honorable discharge as 2nd Lieutenant on September 20, 1945. In 1952, he and his family moved from Jackson to Cape Girardeau. He owned and operated farms in Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties, and owned various agricultural businesses in Cape Girardeau County. In the early 1970's, he was appointed as a State Director of the former Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). Don was a member of the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club for many years, a Paul Harris Fellow, and was a former member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and had served on the Agriculture Committee. He was an avid blue gill fisherman.

He is survived by two sons, Andrew J. (Julie) Pemberton of Weston, MA, Donald D. Pemberton, Jr. of Longmont, CO; two daughters, Nancy (Michael) Carroll of Park Rapids, MN, Mary Ann (James) Bamford of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Carroll; three granddaughters, Kathleen Carroll, Annie and Allyson Pemberton; a great-grandson, Henry Carroll; and a sister, Janet (Max) Wilson of Florissant, MO.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

A visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Visitation will resume on Sunday, January 6, from 12 (noon) to 1:30 p.m., with services immediately following at 1:30 p.m., at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment with military honors will follow in Williams Cemetery near Iberia.
