Donald Ray Roberds, age 66, of Meta, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at his home. He was born in Iberia on October 14, 1948, son of Amos and Ruby (Barnhart) Roberds.
Donald was baptized and accepted Christ early in his life. He attended Smyrna Church of Christ.
Donald honorably served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. During his time in the Army, Donald served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
He loved spending time outdoors. He loved fishing and was an avid hunter.
Donald worked as a heavy machine equipment operator for over 35 years. He retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers in January of 2011. Donald once said, "I found a job I loved and I feel like I never worked a day in my life."
He is survived by his wife, Linda Roberds of Park Rapids, Minnesota; six children, Alan Roberds, Carmen Arnold, Nathan Scott Roberds, Andrew Roberds, Brian Roberds, and Christopher Roberds; five grandchildren, Samantha Roberds, Matthew Roberds, Kayla McCormick, Tara McCormick, and Jodie Arnold; three great-grandchildren, Jayden Million, Connor Million, and Ryan Morss; two brothers, Tommy Roberds and David Roberds; and three sisters, Terry Johnson, Peggy Roberds, and Shirley Price.
He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Roberds on May 26, 1983.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Monday, March 9, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Kevin Rowden will officiate. Interment will be in Stokes Cemetery near Meta.
