Dora Edward Pendleton, of Florissant, formerly of Dixon, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at St. Sophia Nursing Home. At the time of his death he was 95 years, 6 months and 2 days of age. He was born in Miller County on January 16, 1911, a son of the late Charley (Doc) and Mattie Jane (Lair) Pendleton. On May 26, 1934, in Hermann, he was married to Lucy M. Jones who survives at the home. Dora and Lucy had celebrated their 72nd anniversary this past May.
Dora was a mechanic, a well-driller and a carpenter by trade. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. At an early age, he accepted Christ at the New Salem Baptist Church. He was later a member of the Mt. Gilead Church for many years. Late in his life he moved to Florissant to be near his daughter and transferred his membership to First Christian Church of Florissant. He was faithful in his attendance until his health prevented him from going in November 2005.
Others who survive him include: two sons, Dale Pendleton and wife Ella and Richard Pendleton and wife Gloria both of Tallahassee, Florida; one daughter, Kathryn Lawson and husband Charles of Florissant; seven grandchildren, Charles Pendleton of Tallahassee, Dennis Lawson of Florissant, Connie Burns of Benton, Louisiana, Tina Quinn of Fenton, Tracy Graefser of Medora, Illinois, Telisa Runyan of Tallahassee and Ricky Pendleton of Warner-Robbins, Georgia; one sister, Lillie Bryant of Pontiac, Michigan; 15 great grandchildren and several other family members and friends.
Four brothers, Herman, Dillard, Clyde and Emmett Pendleton and three sisters, Ellen Donaldson, Ethel Davidson and Jewell Sooter also preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Pastor Larry Neal and Bro. Charles Wingfield will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
