Obituary

Dorlas Louise Gilliam, age 90, of Brumley, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was born in Brumley on January 4, 1926, daughter of the late Milton and Opal (Duncan) Luttrell. On April 21, 1945, in Miller County, Dorlas married William "Bill" Gilliam, who survives at the home.

In 1945 Dorlas graduated from Swedeborg High School and married her sweetheart Bill. Together they were blessed with 71 years of marriage and raised 6 children, Charlene, Colene, Linda, Becky, Billy, and Beth.

Dorlas loved to quilt, embroider, and sew dresses for her daughters when they were young. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her flowers. Dorlas was known for her "green thumb" and people would stop by her house just to look at all her beautiful flowers. She and her husband, Bill, committed their time daily tending to their zinnias, peonies, iris', and roses.

She was a member of the Brumley Fire Flies and the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxillary. Dorlas volunteered in the Brumley community cooking and serving for many funeral dinners.

Dorlas was a member of Rodden Church of Christ in Brumley. After Sunday church, Dorlas would make fried chicken or her famous chicken and dumplings and apple pie.

In addition to her loving husband of 71 years, Bill Gilliam, she is also survived by three daughters, Charlene Luttrell and husband Gary D. of Brumley, Becky Malmberg and husband Randy of Iberia, Beth Beckett and husband Mike of Lathrop; one son, Billy Gilliam and wife Gay of Iberia; one son-in-law, Gary L. Luttrell of Iberia; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Lois Pemberton, Shirley Smith, Patsy Rodden, and Karen Barnett.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Colene Luttrell and Linda Baker and four sisters, Bonnie Smith, Alice Wooldridge, Joyce Luttrell, and Rosemary Douglas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Homes in Iberia. Bro. Don Thompson will officiate. Interment will be in Lake Memorial Gardens in Osage Beach.

Memorial contributions are suggested the Rodden Church of Christ or Boys Town.
