Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Schroeder) Juergensmeyer, age 90, of Koeltztown, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at her home. She was born in Meta on December 18, 1932, daughter of the late Walter and Sabina (Wieberg) Schroeder. On November 18, 1950, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta, Dorothy was united in marriage to Norbert Juergensmeyer, who preceded her in death on January 15, 2021.

In addition to working at Westphalia Retirement Center in the dietary department and at Neeley Manufacturing in Meta, Dorothy had a fulfilling career as a homemaker raising her children and assisting her husband in the day-to-day operations of the farm. She took great pride in caring for her family, teaching various 4-H classes, was a master gardener, and had a passion for quilting and dancing. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was instrumental in establishing the Hunters Safety Program with the VFW. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown.

She is survived by seven children, Anita (Rick) Hagenhoff of Koeltztown, Joan Henson of Dixon, Grace (Rocky) Bruemmer of Wardsville, Doug (Jennifer) Juergensmeyer of Koeltztown, Phylis (Gary) Voss of St. Elizabeth, Rita Sherrill of Memphis, TN, and Gayla (Brian) Ocheskey of Frankenstein; daughter-in-law, Dana Juergensmeyer of Meta; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren with one on the way, two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Wayne) Helton; canine companion, Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by five children, Thomas, Ross, Wanda, Andrew, and Keith Juergensmeyer; one sister, Helen (Charles) Wankum; sons-in-law, Al Sherrill and Steve Henson.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 25, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown with Fr. Basil Tigga officiating. Interment will be held in St. Boniface Cemetery under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
