Obituary

Rev. Earl N. Skidds, age 62, of Iberia, died Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on December 16, 1943, in Providence, Rhode Island, son of Earl Grady and Alice Mae (Alley) Skidds. On April 29, 2006, in Iberia, he was married to Jean Marie Buchanan, who survives at the home.

He received his Bachelors Degree in Theology in 1970 from Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, Massachusetts. He taught at a private school in New York. He has served as pastor for churches in Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, Illinois, and Missouri. He was pastor of Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia for over 20 years and recently started the Fishing House Advent Christian Church near Iberia where he served as pastor. He was a member and past officer of the Iberia Ministerial Alliance. He was founder of what is now the Rocktown Christian Athletic League. He was very active in Camp Wilderness and other youth programs and was an active member of the Iberia community. He was awarded a plaque in 2006 by the Advent Christian Conference commemorating his many years of service to the Conference-Ministerial Committee. He served as vice-president of the Khoury League baseball and softball program for four years.

Other survivors include two daughters, Julie Weems and husband, Jamie of Iberia, and Rebecca Harrison and husband, Aaron of Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Devin and Whitney Weems and Brady and Abby Harrison; one sister, Edith Skidds of Farmington, New Hampshire; one half-sister, Erma Kennedy of Providence, Rhode Island; one half-brother, Jerry Skidds of Berwick, Maine; six stepchildren; two step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Skidds; one sister, Gladys Walker; one half-brother, Billy Skidds; and one niece, Robin Skidds.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. W. Michael Gardner will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
