Elias D. Otto, age 88, of Jefferson City formerly of St. Anthony, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at his home. He was born in St. Anthony on August 2, 1933, son of the late Michael and Martha (Rehagen) Otto. On October 5, 1957, in St. Elizabeth, MO, Elias was united in marriage to Marilyn Volmert, who survives at their home.
Mr. Otto was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He farmed in the St. Anthony area, taking great pride in his farm, maintaining his machinery and the love of his cattle. He enjoyed farming until he sold the farm and moved to Jefferson City in 2015.
After 35 years of doing construction work, he retired from the Curtis-Maness Construction Company in Eldon. He was a member and served on the Miller County Soil and Water Conservation District in Eldon. He was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City.
Elias enjoyed spending time with his family and friends telling stories, a good joke, playing Sequence, and his love of gardening.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is also survived by four daughters, Diann Brenneke and husband Joe of Henley, Darlene Rush and husband Dale of Mary's Home, Shirley Veit and husband Larry of Folk, and Joyce Renick and husband Jack of Jefferson City; ten grandchildren, Erin Berendzen (Brian), Michael Brenneke (Amy), Samantha Schmitz (Andy), Emily Rush, Amy Rush, Travis Rush, Kayla Yeager (Josh), Justin Veit, Shelby Veit, and Kyle Renick; five great-grandchildren, Anna and Kate Berendzen, Hunter Brenneke, and Jaxon and Jada Yeager; one step-great grandchild, Hattie Jenkins; two brothers, Fred (Mary Ann) Otto of Eldon and Charles (Bea) Otto of St. Anthony; two sisters-in-law, Christine Otto of St. Elizabeth and Bernadine Otto of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Emil, Lawrence, Victor, and Roman Otto and four sisters, Regina Herx, Rose Werdehausen, Cecilia Brand, and Bernadine Groner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Fr. William Korte officiating. Interment will be held in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at the St. Anthony Parish Hall.
