Elmer W. Engelbrecht, age 93, of Henley, died September 21, 2008, at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Russellville on July 16, 1915, a son of the late Otto and Christine (Propst) Engelbrecht. On August 14, 1938, in Jefferson City, he was married to Clara Sommerer, who preceded him in death on October 22, 1999.
Elmer was baptized on August 19, 1915. He was currently a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. Elmer was a lifelong farmer and was a construction worker. He also enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, gardening, swinging on the front porch and watching the Baltimore Orioles.
Those who survive him include: eight children, Arlene Binkley and husband Jerry, Betty Schulte and husband Dennis, Loretta Hogg and husband Delbert and Mary Schilpp and husband James all of Jefferson City and Bernice Morris and husband John, Norma Hart and husband Dan, Harlan Engelbrecht and wife Carla and Glenda Bax and husband Don all of Henley; 38 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren; two step-great grandsons and seven great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. Pastor Rick Swanson will officiate. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Immanuel Lutheran New School Building Fund.
