Ernest Junior Plemmons, age 84, of Brumley, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016, at his home. He was born in Iberia on October 3, 1931, son of the late Perry Ernest and Altha Mae (Duncan) Plemmons. On February 2, 1952, in Salem, Arkansas, Ernest was united in marriage by Judge Lester Collins to Melva Sue DeVore, who preceded him in death on September 16, 2015. Ernest passed away on the eve of what would have been he and Melva's 64th wedding anniversary.
Junior proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. During his time in the service he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Kansas City, KS in 1987. After retiring he and his wife, Melva, built their home in Brumley. Junior was a member of the Ulman Baptist Church. On November 15, 2009, Junior was ordained as a deacon of the Ulman Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn Sue Bunich (Joseph) of Basehor, KS, Carol June Meyer (Tommy) of Iberia, and Sheila Yvonne Plemmons of Ulman; four grandchildren, Travis Lynn Meyer (Rogetta) of Brumley, Brian Joseph Bunich (Lisa) of Kansas City, KS, Brandi Nicole Cochran (Trenton) of Brumley, and Evan Christopher Meyer (Christie) of Lake Ozark; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis Grace Meyer, Madalynne Marie Meyer, Kaden James Cochran, Olivia Renee Meyer, Carly Dale Meyer, Lanee Thomasine Bunich, Keaton James Cochran, and Alexandra Joy Rodden; two sisters, Norma Jean Blackburn of Kansas City and Janice Beard of Iberia and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Abigal Alexis Meyer and seven siblings, Cordell Plemmons, Hazel Blanton, Wayne Plemmons, Cecil Plemmons, Bobby Plemmons, Donald Plemmons, and Larry Plemmons.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Kevin Blackburn will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, at the funeral home.
