Freddie L. Thompson, age 47, of Iberia, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was born in Iberia on June 11, 1968, son of William Wayne and Brenda (Martin) Thompson. On June 1, 1991, in Kennett, Freddie married Terri Jett, who survives at the home.
Freddie graduated from Iberia High School in 1986. After high school, he attended Southwest Missouri State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. After graduation he worked at Eck Adams in Osceola, Arkansas from 1991 to January of 1995. Freddie then moved to Russellville, Kentucky, to work at Emerson until September of 1998, when he was transferred to Copeland Corporation in Lebanon. He and his family moved to Iberia in 2000 and in 2002 Freddie was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Manager at Copeland Corporation.
This past summer he was privileged to work with his son, Derek, at Emerson in Lebanon and was thrilled to help his daughter choose her first prom dress this spring.
Freddie and his son both shared an interest in cars, his favorite was the Ford Mustang. He enjoyed working on his house and vacationing at the beach with his family. Fred farmed for about 5 years, which gave him much satisfaction, but he decided to give it up in order to spend more time with his family.
On December 13, 1999, Freddie received his kidney transplant from his mother. Freddie loved his family and has been faithfully devoted to God all of his life. He was baptized at Tavern Creek on June 18, 1979. Freddie was a member and served as an elder at Iberia Church of Christ. He was very passionate about his faith and he loved to talk to people about God and the Bible. He and his wife, Terri, have served on the board of Little Prairie Bible Camp for the past 2 years. He has also spent many weeks during the summers serving as counselor to the kids at LPBC.
In addition to his loving wife, Terri, he is also survived by one son, Derek Thompson of Rolla; one daughter, Ashley Thompson of the home; mother, Brenda Thompson of Iberia; two brothers, Dwayne Thompson and wife Cathy and Phillip Thompson and wife DeAnn both of Iberia; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Thompson; maternal grandparents, Louis and Margie Martin; and paternal grandparents, Dewey and Madge Thompson.
Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Spencer Furby, Mark White, and Travis Hardesty will officiate. Interment will be in Alder Springs Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at the funeral home.
