Gary Gene Groves, age 83, of Iberia, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born in Iberia on August 28, 1939, son of the late Floy Oddly and Grace (Skaggs) Groves.  On March 15, 1957, in Iberia, Gary was united in marriage to Donna Jean Ross, who preceded him in death on October 8, 2019.

Gary had a strong work ethic and was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Local 513 Operating Engineers.  He was a master gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors.  Gary cherished spending time with his family, especially during Thanksgiving, which was his favorite time of year.

He was a long-time member of Brays Christian Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Jana (Bill) Sexton and Karyn (Allen) Smith; son, Alan (Lisa) Groves; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Davie (Carol) Groves; two sisters, Carol Groves and Kathy Bonesteel; and numerous family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Beth Groves-Johnson and Theresa Lynn (Groves) Darnell; sister, Judy Gilbert; three brothers, C.G., Leo, and Joe Groves; and nephew, Mike Groves.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, August 30, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Bob Hamm officiating.  Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in Iberia.
