Obituary

George Richard Holtmeyer, age 79, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at his home.  He was born in Tuscumbia on December 12, 1944, son of the late Alphonse John and Regina Katerina (Luebbert) Holtmeyer. George was a life-long resident of St. Elizabeth.

He honorably served in the United States Army Reserves for several years.  George was employed as manager with the MFA of St. Elizabeth from March of 1965 until October of 1998 (33 years).  After retiring from the MFA, he worked for Quaker Windows in Freeburg.

George was an avid fan of the three B's of sports – baseball, basketball, and bowling.  For many years he was a member of the Charleytown Men's Bowling League.  In addition to serving as their bowling league's secretary for 28 years he also served as secretary of the Jefferson City Bowling Association.

He took great pride in his farm and enjoyed playing cards.  George was an original member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6640 in St. Elizabeth that was established on December 9, 1974.  He was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth.

He is survived by his siblings, Joann (Richard) Feltrop of Jefferson City, Leonard (Liz) Holtmeyer of St. Elizabeth, Irene (Kenny) Schaben of Meta, Mildred Musick (Mike Cunningham) of Aurora, Helen (James) Branch of Jefferson City, and Bernice Holtmeyer of St. Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Virginia Holtmeyer; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his older brother, Raymond Holtmeyer; infant brother, Alfred Holtmeyer; brother-in-law, Robert Musick; two nieces, and three nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, October 23, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth.
