Georgia Ida (Tallman) Fritz, age 94, of Waynesville, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Brookdale of Overland Park, Kansas. She was born in Miller County on October 1, 1921, daughter of the late Wesley Eugene and Jennie (Deardeuff) Tallman.
Georgia was in the first graduating class of Iberia High School after the fire destroyed the old school. After graduation she attended Iberia Junior College.
Georgia married Harold Lee Fritz of Hartville on June 26, 1948, in Springfield, with her sister, Norma and her husband Lawrence Vaini, standing up with them.
She worked at Ft. Leonard Wood in a service club and later as a telephone operator in Iberia, along with her sister, Zella. After raising her children, Georgia went to work for Waynesville Schools and was head cook at Thayer and East Elementary schools. In 1968, Georgia went to work as head of the Dietary Department of the Waynesville Hospital and retired from there in 1983. During her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting grandchildren and bringing them big tupperwares of baked cookies.
Georgia was actively involved in the Republican Party and ran the Pulaski County Republican Headquarters during elections for 20 years. She later served as the head judge during elections. Georgia and her husband were Committee Man and Women of Cullen Township for 10 years.
In her youth she attended the Iberia Church of the Nazarene and later attended the Iberia Church of Christ until her health no longer allowed her to travel.
She is survived by three daughters, Jolene Puckett of Springfield, Alice Stark and husband Jim of Leawood, KS, and Lena Gaines and husband Bill of Brighton, MI; 13 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Fritz on December 10, 2004, she was also preceded in death by her son, Roy Fritz; son-in-law, Eddie Puckett; two brothers, John Tallman and Stanley Tallman; two sisters, Norma Vaini and Zella Rook; and three step brothers.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Jacob Gaines will officiate. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery.
