Obituary

Harold "Bud" Loethen Sr., age 91, of Meta, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016, at Jefferson City Manor. He was born in Meta on November 19, 1924, son of the late Martin and Addie (Meltabarger) Loethen.

Bud served in the United States Army from August 8, 1943 until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1945. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for his courageous service during WWII.

After the war Bud returned to Meta, where he married Mary Ann Jaegers on July 9, 1946 and together they raised their seven children. Bud enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially treasured his time spent in Colorado.

Bud retired from the Iron Workers Local 396 after 38 years of employment. He was a member of the Argyle VFW and past commander of the Meta American Legion Post 519. Bud was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.

He is survived by seven children, Joan Doerhoff and friend Jerry of Jefferson City, Harold Loethen Jr. of Meta, Elaine Ready and husband Roger of Taos, Danny Loethen and wife Loretta of St. Elizabeth, Kenny Loethen and wife Alice of Meta, Tony Loethen and wife Darlene of St. Elizabeth, and David Loethen and wife Nancy of Meta; two sisters, Alice Hake and husband Ben of Meta, Joyce Emmerich of Eldon; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary Ann, who preceded him in death on January 23, 1989, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne, Jack, John "Pepper", and Larry Loethen; and two sisters, Virginia and Betty.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Rev. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Meta.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Friday, February 19, at the church.
