Hazel Schulte, age 98, of Eldon, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Iberia on October 9, 1907, a daughter of the late Thomas and Martha (Shelton) Duncan. On April 28, 1942, in Mary's Home, she was married to Harold Schulte, who preceded her in death on September 14, 1990.

Hazel taught school for over 40 years; during the majority of those years, she taught first grade in Tuscumbia. As Hazel didn't have any children of her own, the "sweet little faces" of the children she taught became her pride and joy. She loved to teach and she dearly loved the children she taught. She was truly an inspiration to us all. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon.

Those who survive her include: three brothers-in-law, Otto, Fred and Herman Schulte; two sisters-in-law, Lois Motley and Viola Steenburgen; numerous nieces and nephews and several friends and acquaintances.

One brother, Ovid Duncan and three sisters, Mary Alexander, Nellie Ponder and Edith Willis also preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldon. Father Greg Oligschlaeger will officiate. Interment will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens near Barnett.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon and from 9-9:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary at 9:45 a.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Hearth Catholic Church.
