Obituary

Herbert J. Kroll, age 94, of St. Thomas, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Adam's Street Place in Jefferson City.  He was born in St. Thomas on December 15, 1927, son of the late Alphonse and Irene (Kaiser) Kroll.  On May 16, 1951, in Taos, Herbert was united in marriage to Henrietta Grothoff, who preceded him in death on May 9, 2016.

Herbert honorably served in the United States Army during World War II.  He retired from Westinghouse after over 20 years of employment.  He enjoyed fishing on the Osage River and making rosaries.  His favorite pastimes were traveling and dancing with his wife, Henrietta.  Herbert took great pride in caring for his farm and loved spending time with his close-knit family, especially his grandchildren.

Herbert was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in St. Thomas.

He is survived by eight children, Linda Hughes and husband David of Warsaw, Dennis Kroll and wife Gerene of Jefferson City, Bob Kroll and wife Mary of Broken Arrow, OK, Rose Ann Ruzicka and husband Ken of Jefferson City, Delores Crocker and husband Jim of Batesville, IN, Mary Lynn Weiner and husband Rob of Overland Park, KS, Stanley Kroll and wife Sharlet of St. Thomas, and Jean Kliethermes and husband Keith of St. Thomas; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Angeline Kroll and Lucy Stoehr and husband Paul; one brother, Ronnie Kroll and wife Sophie; one brother-in-law, Jim Strope; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Diane Kroll; brother, Jim Kroll and wife Betty; and sister, Germaine Strope.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating.  Interment with military honors will be held in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Thursday, March 3, at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or St. Thomas the Apostle School.
