Herbert Lambert Volmert, age 85, of St. Thomas, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at his home. He was born in St. Thomas on July 30, 1923, son of Bernard and Minnie (Kolb) Volmert. On October 1, 1949, in Meta, Herbert married Imogene A. Lueckenotto, who survives at the home.
Herbert attended grade school in St. Thomas and high school in Meta. He was a dairy farmer for many years, an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed cutting wood, his dogs, hunting, and Cardinal baseball. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially playing pinochle. Herbert was a member of St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council 2149 (past Grand Knight), St. Thomas Holy Name Society, and St. Thomas Over 50 Club. Herbert was also a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
He is also survived by two sons, Roger Volmert and wife Eileen and David Volmert and wife Peggy all of St. Thomas; three daughters, Linda Kiesling and husband David of Jefferson City, Darlene Libbert and husband Danny of St. Thomas, and Ruth Stokes and husband Jim of Jefferson City; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Viola Volmert.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leander (Curly) Volmert, and his grandson, Kurt Volmert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, at the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Hall, with a senior citizen's rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be sent to SSM Hospice, 520 Ellis Blvd., Ste N, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101 or to Fr. Luke's Mission Club.
