Icie Jean S. Evacko, age 86, of Iberia, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at St. Marys Health Center. She was born in Brumley on January 31, 1922, a daughter of the late Frank and Ella (Wall) Steen. On August 22, 1942, in East Chicago, Indiana, she was married to Michael Peter Evacko, who preceded her in death on February 22, 1987.

Icie and her husband retired from farming and moved to Iberia where she helped at the Iberia Friendship Hall and was an Avon Representative for several years. She was also a member of the Iberia First Christian Church.

Those who survive her include: three sisters-in-law, Elva Steen of Eldon and Phyllis and Lucille Steen of Iberia and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Five brothers, Waldo, John, Holmes, Kermit and Paul Steen and one sister, Vergie Smith, also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, with services immediately following at 7:00 p.m. at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date in Williams Cemetery near Iberia.
