IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Icie Elaine
(George) Cleland
March 10, 1944 – January 9, 2024
Icie Elaine (George) Cleland was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on January 9, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. She was 79 years old.
Elaine was born to Joseph George & Hazel Brown on March 10, 1944, in Barnett, MO. She worked summers at the Lake of the Ozarks as a waitress and met Chuck Cleland there. They were married on January 26, 1964. Together they had two children: Daniel and Stacey.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Iberia. She worked in food service until her retirement. After retirement, she cared for her granddaughters. She was an avid antique and doll collector. Every Sunday afternoon was a game of cards (pitch was her favorite) and watching the Kansas City Chiefs over a home-cooked meal. Elaine loved spending time in the kitchen, ensuring all who came to her home were well-fed with biscuits and gravy, chicken n' dumplings, her famous fudge, and divinity. Elaine had a heart for travel and talked about her trips to "The South" and Europe often.
She leaves behind: her best friend, Chuck Cleland; son, Daniel Cleland and wife Gayle; daughter, Stacey Collins; brother, John George and wife Barb; sister, Linda Lee and husband Jim; granddaughters, Brooklyn (Sam) Niemeyer, Paige (Eric) Collins, Hailey (Diana) Brown, and Harper Cleland. Four great-grandchildren, Finn, Lilly, Amelia, and Isaac; Special Friends - "Buster" Lane and Faye King; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother Joe George; sister, Carolyn Parker; and nephew, Tim Parker.
The visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m., on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Interment will be at Hawkins Cemetery in Brumley after the service.
