Obituary

Ida T. Schellman, age 100, of St. Thomas, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Adams Street Place Nursing Home in Jefferson City. She was born in St. Thomas on April 5, 1914, daughter of the late Henry and Rosa (Gerling) Loethen. On October 22, 1940, in St. Thomas, Ida was united in marriage to Anthony Schellman, who preceded her in death on March 7, 1966.

Ida was very passionate about her faith, her family, and her community. She was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers of her parish. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality, and the Over 50 Club.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. Ida was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and regular viewer of EWTN.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed by the St. Thomas Baseball Factory, as well as the St. Thomas Parish School and Blair Oaks R-II School District as a cafeteria cook for over 30 years.

Ida was known for her angel food cake and chocolate bread pudding. She used her cooking skills to help prepare meals for many church picnics, weddings, funerals, luncheons, and various other functions in the community throughout the years.

She is survived by four children, Gilbert Schellman and wife Betty, Shirley Volmert and husband Ray, Robert Schellman and wife Donna, and Richard Schellman and wife Carol all of St. Thomas; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Schellman of Jefferson City.

She was also preceded in death by two children; Linda Schellman and Mary Schellman; three brothers, Otto Loethen, Andrew Loethen, and Tom Loethen; and two sisters, Hilda Bexten and Clara Loethen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Rev. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 3 p.m., on Friday, November 28, at the church.
