He was born in Iberia on April 9, 1945, son of the late Charles and Hazel (Atwell) Prater. On June 26, 1965, at Iberia First Christian Church, Jack was united in marriage to Lois Marie Sloan, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2023.

Jack was no stranger to hard work and began his career working at The Corvette Factory in St. Louis and later for MoDOT for several years. He taught building trades and drove a bus route at Iberia R-V for 22 years before retiring. He built numerous houses in the community and taught valuable skills that led many students to maintain contact and friendship with him after high school. Jack also owned and operated JJ Prater Excavating.

He cherished spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, creating treasured memories throughout the years. Jack was a faithful and active member of the Iberia First Christian Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Michael) French of Dixon and Lisa (Bruce) Moore of Camdenton; six grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Trotter, Monte (Whitney) French, T.J. (Jordan) Moore, Cooper (Jordyn) Moore, Cody (Amber) Moore, and Kylee Moore; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Julia, Jolene, Lincoln, Maxwell, Jack, and Wesley Jo; sisters Judy Fritchey, Pam Thornton, and Sandy Hardesty; brother, Ronnie Prater; and a host of beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel Prater; stepmother, Scottie Prater; wife, Lois Prater; and two sisters, Joyce Depping and Kathy Blankenship.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 20, at Iberia First Christian Church, 205 W. Normal Street, Iberia, Missouri with Monte French and Stan Way officiating. Interment will be held in Bethany Cemetery near Crocker.
