James Corwin Burks, age 84, of Iberia, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at his home. He was born in Iberia on October 30, 1930, son of the late Virgil and Louise (Pemberton) Burks. On December 5, 1953, in Iberia, James married June Oertli, who survives at the home.
James worked for Scott Gas as a truck driver for over 30 years. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working in his garden, fishing, and hunting.
He was a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge, Abu Ben Adan Shrine of Springfield, Scottish Right of Columbia; and of the Iberia VFW Post 6167.
In addition to his wife, June, he is survived by two daughters, Gay Gilliam and husband Bill and Ginger Hensley and husband Bill both of Iberia; five grandchildren, Bridgette Baker, Brandy Smith, Brook Bridgeman, Evan Hensley, and Matt Hensley; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 1:45 p.m. and funeral services immediately following, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Stan Way will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Iberia Cemetery.
