James Richard Dettlaff, Jr., age 59, of Brumley, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 10, 2024.  He was born in Wynona, Missouri, on November 10, 1964, son of the late James Dettlaff Sr. and Barbara Ann (Simon) St. Pierre.  On June 14, 1995, James was united in marriage to Korena Jeanice Brawley, who survives at their home.

James possessed a strong work ethic and worked as a drywall finisher from the age of 16.   He had a passion for collecting guns and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and growing weed.  James was devoted to his family and loved time spent with his pit bulls.  He was a member of Amazing Grace Fellowship in Crocker.

In addition to his loving wife, Korena Dettlaff, he is also survived by four children, Andrew Brawley, Krissy (Jimmy) Downing, Ori (Raegan) Dettlaff, and Samantha Dettlaff; five grandchildren, Jennifer Brawley, Caige Brawley, Allyssa Brawley, Trinity Witt, and Brooklyn Downing; great-granddaughter, Octavia White; sister, Tina Hendricks; and numerous family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Debra Palmer.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, at Iberia Cemetery with Rich Harris officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
