James Joseph Hammann, age 71, of Mexico, formerly of Meta, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico. He was born in Jefferson City on July 10, 1941, son of the late Walter and Wilhelmina (Huhman) Hammann.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Hammann and wife Michelle of Lawrence, Kansas; four sisters, Mary Wankum of Jefferson City, Pat Rufty and husband Sid of Raytown, Judy Parks and husband Gene of St. Charles, Illinois, and Eileen Volmert and husband Roger of St. Thomas; two brothers, John Hammann and wife Bernice of Tuscumbia and David Hammann and wife Mary Lou of Meta; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Tarwater and one brother, Don Hammann.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 21, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta. Fr. Roberto Ike will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Meta.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m., on Thursday, December 20, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James Hammann Memorial Fund.
