James Oliver Hodge, age 83, of Marshall formerly of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Boone County Hospital in Columbia. He was born in St. Anthony on April 17, 1929, son of the late Oliver and Katie (Kesterson) Hodge. On February 3, 1951, in Tuscumbia, James married Eunice Farrow, who preceded him in death on December 15, 1996. On May 12, 2002, in Ulman, James married Norma (Boulware) Nickell, who survives at the home.

James attended the First Assembly of God Church in Marshall and the Fairview Christian Church near Iberia.

He is also survived by four step-children, Roger Nickell and wife Linda of Independence, Rhonda Shay and husband Bill of Grandview, Glenda Mutrux and husband Charley of Glenwood, Iowa; and Mary James of Chillicothe; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Mutrux and wife Abby of South Jorden, Utah, Sylvia Fields and husband Scott of Raytown, Becky Mutrux of Mongolia, Monica Smith and husband Jeremy of Lee's Summit, Roger Nickell of Chillicothe, Amy Savage of Independence, Laura Sargent and husband Matthew of Glenwood, Iowa, Jason Nickell of Independence, and Mitch Mutrux of Glenwood, Iowa; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Cherokee Nickell, Cheyenne Nickell, Shelby Nickell, Roger Nickell III, Richard Nickell, Michael Nickell, Noah Leclair, Kristian Hakes, Bryce Hakes, Meredith Smith, Maddison Smith, Molly Mutrux, and Henry Mutrux.

He was also preceded in death by one son, James Dewayne Hodge, two brothers, and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with services immediately following at 2 p.m., on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Freddie Earp will officiate. Interment will be in Jim Matt Lawson Cemetery near Iberia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Christian Church.
