James "J.W." Humphrey, age 83, of Dixon, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012, at the University Hospital in Columbia. He was born in Maries County on October 6, 1928, son of the late Rufus and Olive (Scott) Humphrey. On February 11, 1956, in St. Louis, James married Evelyn Marie Radmacher, who preceded him in death on June 4, 2010.
J.W. was a life long farmer and Livestock Trader in the Maries County area. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he especially loved watching his great-grandchildren play and horse around. J.W. had a faithful Rat Terrier named Booger who was always by his side.
He is survived by one son, James R. Humphrey and wife Donna of Dixon; four grandchildren, Melissa Dawn Jones and husband Justin of Windsor, James Aaron Humphrey and wife Michelle of Wardsville, Ashley Jean Humphrey of Dixon, and Jared Adam Humphrey and wife Sarah of Dixon; and four great-grandchildren, Cassidy Jones, Ace Helton, Makenzie Humphrey, and Jett Humphrey.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Fr. Jeremy Secrist will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Meta.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, at the funeral home in Meta.
