Obituary

James John "Jim" Volmert, age 78, of Iberia, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Lake Regional ICU in Osage Beach, following a battle with Alzheimer's and Covid 19.

He was born in Jefferson City, on January 24, 1944, son of the late Louis and Alma (Luebbert) Volmert of Vienna and lived there his entire childhood and young adulthood. He was a steadfast Catholic and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, St. Anthony, MO, at the time of his death.

Jim attended Visitation Catholic School, grades 1-8, and graduated from Maries County R-1 High School, Vienna, in 1962.  He earned a bachelor's degree in Education and later a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling.  Jim's career in teaching, coaching, and counseling took him to various schools in central Missouri including Vienna, Jefferson City High School, Salem, Laquey, Linn, Cuba, and Swedeborg.  He retired in 1999 from Cuba Middle School.  His work history also included the Fire Department in University City, Roadway Trucking, FedEx, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Missouri Department of Agriculture, as well as numerous odd jobs along the way.

Horses, sports, and fishing were Jim's hobbies.  He was quite the athlete in his time, playing numerous sports and excelling at all.  He played on various traveling baseball and softball teams in mid-Missouri and the St. Louis area.  Over the years, he bought, trained to ride, and sold many horses.  Pleasure riding took him, and later Linda, to numerous trail rides around the central Missouri area, most notably Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence.  He was also an avid fisherman and particularly enjoyed fishing with his daughter, Angie.  He was in fisherman heaven when he and Linda moved into a condo on Lake of the Ozarks and lived there for six years.  After moving to Lake Ozark in 2012, Jim and Linda became involved with Hope House of Miller County.  They volunteered in the Food Pantry and Thrift Store for over eight years until Jim's health issues made it impossible to continue.

In July of 1965, Jim was married to Elaine Joan James, and they became the parents of two daughters, Amy and Angie.  On January 8, 2011, he married Linda Buechter Hix, who survives at the home.

In addition to his loving wife, Linda, he is also survived by two daughters, Amy Wilson (Monty) and Angie Volmert; three stepdaughters, Heather Luttrell (Stacey), Madeleine Cochran (Ryan), and Nikki Jones (Matt Rowden); grandchildren, Emily Sirois (Matt), Erica Sullivan, and Luke Sullivan; one great-granddaughter, Cara Sirois, and 11 step-grandchildren; one step great grandchild; sister, Donna Harris; one nephew; four nieces; and their families, and dear friend and caregiver, Diana Luttrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Caroline (Carrie) James, brothers-in-law, Frank James and Duane Harris, and great-nephew, Jameson Harris.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m., on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Rev. Ignitius Nimwesiga officiating.  Inurnment will be held in St. Anthony Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Hope House of Lake Ozark or St. Anthony Cemetery.
